President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (08/22) emphasized that education is one of strategic measures for a strong nation. All levels of education, from primary to university, must be improved to prepare young generation to manage national wealth. The President made the statement when he was delivering directives to teachers and principals of Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) at JI-Expo, Kemayoran, Jakarta.

“Not limited to 1, 2, 3 sectors, all primary schools must be improved. All secondary and high schools, vocational schools, and universities must be improved,” said the President.

He also highlighted the importance of education budget management to be well-targeted and transparent. He gave an example of the misappropriation of funds in other nations that we should avoid.

“Despite the large allocation, much of it is lost due to inefficiencies and leakages. Our brothers and sisters in the regions are more aware of this situation than we are in Jakarta. You may feel and hear the budget allocation, but you receive less. How was it lost? How did it leak? Ladies and Gentlemen, we must correct this,” said the President.

President Prabowo emphasized that the improvement of education quality should not be carried out in a gradual and limited manner. According to him, Indonesia has limited time while the world is currently competing to advance its education systems; therefore, all levels of education must be improved without delay.

“We cannot delay. We cannot state: start with 10 schools, wait for their success, then add 30 more schools. Sorry, the world does not work like that. The world is competing. Our neighboring countries are competing. Therefore, we do not have much time. It is one of our commitments to improve our education,” the President emphasized.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/MMB)
