President Subianto Arrives in Egypt for D8 Summit

President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (12/17) kicked off an overseas working visit to Egypt from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 11.45 Western Indonesian Time. The President and his entourage arrived at Cairo International Airport in Egypt at approximately 8.15 PM local time.

Upon his arrival, President Subianto was welcomed by Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Major-General Muhamad Solah, Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Yasser Hassan Elshemy, Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Lutfi Rauf, and Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo Colonel Dafris D. Syafruddin.

The President proceeded past the honor guard who welcomed his arrival before heading straight to the hotel with his entourage to rest for the night.

In Cairo, the President is scheduled to pay a state visit to meet President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Earlier at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, the President stated that this is the first state visit to Egypt since 2013.

“Egypt is a close friend, a strategic partner for Indonesia, and a key nation in the Middle East. I will be holding a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,” the President said.

In addition to the state visit, the Head of State will also attend the 11th Developing Eight (D8) Summit, where Indonesia is set to assume the Chairmanship of the D8 on January 1, 2026. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/ABD) (RIF/MUR)
