President Prabowo Calls on Designing Technology-Based Education and Rehabilitation Models for Drug Users

President Prabowo Subianto, on Tuesday (9/29), held a limited meeting with several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. During the meeting, the Head of State delivered his directive on developing an education and rehabilitation model for drug users, especially teenagers and youth.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto said that President Prabowo called on the Government to develop an approach that could help drug users recover and live their lives in productive ways.

“Mr. President directed to have curriculum and education models that can give significant transformation,” Brian said in a press statement after the meeting.

Brian said several universities have developed rehabilitation practices supported by technology and educational approaches. Doctors from the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) and researchers from the Universitas Indonesia also gave some inputs as a reference for the Government to develop a rehabilitation concept.

“We will use them as a reference to design a concept from the best practices developed by universities, so that rehabilitation for drug users, especially teenagers or youth can truly resolve the problems,” said Brian.

Brian added that the President also ordered him to study best practices from other countries, focusing on the advanced technology-based education and rehabilitation models.

“Mr. President also directed us to adopt some best practices from other countries, like those education and rehabilitation models that utilize technological advances, so that this problem can be truly resolved,” said Brian.

In addition to strengthened rehabilitation, the meeting also highlighted the ease of access to drugs among teenagers. Brian said the concept to be developed with universities is aimed at helping the youth undergo rehabilitation, so they can recover and be productive in daily lives.

“So, they do not only recover, but also live a productive life. We will design the concept alongside universities having faculties of medicine and psychology, which have been extensively involved in the rehabilitation process for drug users or addicts,” he said.
