President Prabowo Emphasizes the Importance of Economic Unity and Collaboration in D-8 Summit

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the potential of Developing Eight (D-8) member countries is a transformative power. The President stated it during the plenary session of the 11th D-8 Summit at the Presidential Palace of New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

“We should realize that D-8 is indeed holds a huge potential. In all fairness, D-8 represents the third biggest economic growth globally with a joint GDP of USD 4.81 in 2023,” the President said.

In his remarks, President Prabowo highlighted the big potential of D-8 in improving the welfare of its country members, among others, by utilizing blue economy as one of the strategic cooperation pillars.

“All D-8 countries has unique position to take advantages of the blue economy benefits and resources. This is a very strategic cooperation,” he added.

Additionally, President Prabowo has encouraged the implementation starting from the preferential trade agreement to strengthening halal value chain through D-8 economic network. In his opinion, D-8 should be more than just economic block. Instead, it should be a global movement that is inclusive, just, and prioritizing common welfare.

“We should also continue to advocate a global order that is more equitable based on international law, inclusivity, justice and common welfare,” he affirmed.

Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo called on state leaders to make D-8 as a positive change catalyst. The Head of State also affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthen international collaboration and to boost economic growth for the people’s welfare.
