President Prabowo Subianto has expressed appreciation for the statement of position delivered by a forum of retired Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) personnel, which outlined eight key recommendations addressing a range of national issues.
Special Advisor to the President for Political and Security Affairs Wiranto made the statement following his meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (04/24).
“The President respects and understands their aspirations. He shares the same alma mater, the same struggles, and the same dedication. Their views are rooted in the values of Sapta Marga (7 points of Guidance for Indonesian Defese Force personnels) and the Soldier’s Oath, principles that the President also upholds,” Wiranto stated in his press statement.
However, Wiranto highlighted that the President would not issue an immediate response to the proposal and would first conduct a thorough review, given the significance of the issue raised.
“As the Head of State, Head of Government, and Commander-in-Chief of the TNI, the President cannot respond spontaneously. Why? He needs to study these matters carefully, point by point, because they touch on fundamental national concerns,” he explained.
Wiranto emphasized that the President’s authority operates within the framework of a state system that upholds the principles of separation powers. Therefore, proposals that fall outside the executive domain will not receive a direct response.
“In a country that upholds the principle of trias politica, where the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches operate independently, one cannot interfere with the other. So, any proposal that does not fall within the President’s authority or jurisdiction will naturally not be addressed,” Wiranto stressed.
On that occasion, he also conveyed the President’s appeal to the public to remain calm and not be swayed by online discourse or polemics surrounding the TNI Retirees’ Forum. This is crucial to prevent unrest that could undermine national unity and social cohesion.
“Differences of opinion are natural, but they should not undermine our unity as a nation. Such differences should not overshadow the challenges we are facing. I think that’s all the President’s message,” Wiranto said.
He also added that an official statement regarding the forum’s proposals would be issued at an appropriate time, ensuring clarity and preserving national harmony.
“When the time is right, an official explanation will be delivered to help ease tensions. What we need now is peace, unity, and collective strength to face the real issues confronting our nation,” Wiranto remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RIF/LW)
