President Prabowo Affirms NU as Pillar of Indonesia’s National Unity at Mujahadah Kubro

President Prabowo attends the Mujahadah Kubro for the Centenary of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), on Sunday (02/08).

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the role of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in maintaining national unity and integrity.

“Brothers and Sisters, NU always sets an example. NU always strives to maintain unity. A principle that the history itself has taught us,” the President said in his remarks at  Mujahadah Kubro, a grand spiritual gathering for the Centenary of NU, on Sunday (02/08), held at Gajayana Stadium in Malang city, East Java province.

NU’s dedication to the nation’s and state’s sustainability has lasted for 100 years and is considered a cornerstone of the Indonesian nation’s greatness. Furthermore, the President also emphasized that NU, through its kiai (Islamic scholars) and ulema, is always present in times of threat to safeguard the country, as was the case with Indonesian independence.

“Independence was tried in East Java, tried in Surabaya. It was tried in battles in Surabaya and its surroundings. And in those battles, we, the Indonesian people, succeeded in defending our independence against the world’s great powers. We succeeded in confronting the British, the victor of World War II. The people of East Java, the people of Surabaya, were led by the kiai,” the President said.

In addition, President Prabowo also highlighted that harmony is the key to national strength. Therefore, he called on all levels of society to embrace and unite amid differences.

“We may compete, we may contest, we may differ, we may debate, but ultimately, all Indonesian leaders, all community leaders must live in harmony, must maintain unity and integrity,” he added.
