The Government is committed to making decent housing available to underprivileged people as part of a transformation towards a more prosperous Indonesia, President Prabowo Subianto has said.

The President made the statement at the inauguration of the mass signing of 26,000 mortgages under the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme and the ceremonial handover of house keys on Monday (09/29) at Pesona Kahuripan 10 residential complex in Cileungsi district, Bogor regency, West Java province.

Alhamdulillah, I am finally here, although I did not keep my word. I promised 25,000, but the result is 26,000 [mortgages],” he said.

According to the Head of State, the achievement serves as proof of government officials’ changed mindset and work ethic that prioritize results.

“They usually make sky-high promises, but the results fall short. This time, it is the opposite. We promised 25,000, but the result is more than that. It means that there are signs of changes and transformation, especially mental, the mindset of officials and leaders,” he said.

On that occasion, President Prabowo underscored that housing construction not only addresses the basic needs of low-income individuals but also drives national economic growth.

“The housing, in addition to meeting the essential needs of people, particularly those with low income, can also drive economic growth,” he said while pointing out that the Government has targeted to construct three million houses.

“I remember the words of our founding father Soekarno. Set your goals as high as the heavens. Even if you fail to reach them, you will still fall among the stars,” he said.

The President also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the public housing program, noting that with cooperation and commitment, the program will continue to improve.

“Once again, thank you to the Minister of Housing [and Settlement Areas] and the ministry, all president directors of state-owned banks, [as well as] the Government and private companies that have worked hard. Thank you to private companies and associations that have focused the CSR to help our people with low income. I am optimistic and I believe we can do much better and achieve more in the future,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MMB)
