President Prabowo Subianto has instructed Cabinet members to abolish technical regulations issued by Ministries.

The President emphasized that technical regulations should be stipulated by Presidential Decrees.

“Sometimes bureaucrats issue additional technical regulations even though Presidential Decrees dealing with the same concerns have been issued, and some technical regulations are more rigid than the Presidential Decrees,” the President said during a question-and-answer session with economists and business persons at the Economic Symposium held at Menara Mandiri, Jakarta, Tuesday (04/08).

President Prabowo stated that technical regulations issued by a Ministry must obtain prior approval from the President, as part of broader efforts to streamline bureaucracy and enhance regulatory efficiency.

The President also instructed Government officials to abolish irrational regulations, emphasizing the need to simplify all procedures for entrepreneurs and businesses.

“Please inform us if you encounter inefficient practices. We will take immediate action. I have clearly instructed the entire cabinet: firstly, ensure efficiency at work; secondly, remove all irrational regulations. Make procedures easier for entrepreneurs,” the President said.

The President also urged his cabinet members to review existing regulations and policies, particularly those dealing with import practices, adding that any actions harming the nation and the people must be stopped.

“We must review our policies. Our institutions must be prudent. Our Customs must be efficient: no more unnecessary and lengthy procedures. Smuggling must be stopped as it threatens our industries, our people, and their livelihoods,” the President stated.

President Prabowo also highlighted accountability for every policy and gave warnings to improve the current economy. Moreover, the Government will take harsh action against its officials who are involved in smuggling.

“I have reiterated to all officials that we must improve our economy. Many of our people still live a hard life. Do not engage in practices that harm our own citizens,” the President stated.

During the question-and-answer session, the President extended his appreciation to the economists and business persons present at the event for their valuable suggestions and feedback. He also encouraged the participants to immediately report any violation in implementation of the Government policies.
