President Prabowo Subianto hosted a State Luncheon as part of the state visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Mrs. Elke Büdenbender at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (6/15). The luncheon was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the close friendship between Indonesia and Germany.
In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the bilateral relations that have been built over decades between the two countries. According to the President, Germany holds a strategic position for Indonesia and the partnership established over the years has brought tangible benefits to the people of both nations.
“I appreciate the warm, open, and productive discussions we have had today. Ladies and gentlemen, Germany holds a special place for Indonesia. For 74 years, our diplomatic relations have delivered real benefits to our peoples, making Germany one of Indonesia’s key partners in Europe,” President Prabowo said.
President Prabowo also noted that Germany has long served as a source of inspiration for Indonesia’s development, particularly in the fields of innovation and technological advancement. This is reflected in the large number of Indonesians who have pursued education and professional training in Germany.
“Germany has consistently been a source of inspiration through its innovation, technological progress, discipline, and strong respect for rules and institutions. Many Indonesians have studied and received training in Germany. Indonesia’s third President also had extensive experience studying and working in Germany,” he remarked.
In this regard, President Prabowo expressed his hope that Indonesia and Germany partnership would continue to grow stronger across various sectors. He also shared his personal experience of undergoing training in Germany in 1981.
“I can personally attest to this strength, as I myself underwent training in Germany in 1981. I hope your visit will further strengthen our cooperation, especially amid the current global dynamics and uncertainties,” he said.
On the same occasion, President Prabowo emphasized Germany’s important role in introducing Indonesia to the international community, including through academic circles even before Indonesia gained independence.
“Therefore, although our two countries will soon celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the roots of our relations were actually established long before Indonesia achieved independence,” the President stated.
Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for President Steinmeier’s visit to Indonesia and voiced his hope that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to flourish in the future.
“I believe many ties between our nations will continue to be strengthened. As a final note, I wish President Steinmeier and Mrs. Büdenbender good health and success, and may the people of Indonesia and Germany continue to prosper and enjoy a lasting friendship,” President Prabowo concluded.
