1,671 State Schools Built in 2019: Gov’t

The Government last year built and renovated 1,671 state schools, including elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, as well as vocational schools, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“A total of 164 state schools are being rehabilitated and renovated in Riau Province,” President Jokowi told reporters after inspecting Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road in Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau Province, Friday (21/2).

According to the President, those schools are expected to provide adequate sanitary facilities, including toilets and good water quality to support students’ clean and healthy lifestyle.

“I have checked all school facilities, including its water quality. It is an educational infrastructure, a place where we will improve our human resources for the next five years,” President Jokowi said.

The President also said that education infrastructures are supporting factors to accelerate human resources development in the country.

“Human resources development should be encouraged with better infrastructure. I am pleased that there are several sports facilities at the school, including a basketball court as well as a badminton and volleyball field,” the President said.

President Jokowi further said the compound of State Islamic Junior High School 3 Riau covers an area of two hectares.

“The school rehabilitation is not only one classroom, but it also includes all supporting facilities,” he said. (RSF / EN)
