2026 WEF Annual Meeting: President Prabowo Affirms Stability, Peace as Key to Safeguarding Future Economy

President Prabowo Subianto (01/22) emphasized the importance of peace and stability for growth and prosperity amid global uncertainties.

The statement was made by the President in his keynote speech at the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, in Davos, Switzerland.

“History teaches us that peace and stability are our most valuable assets. Peace and stability are the ultimate prerequisites for growth and prosperity. There will be no prosperity without peace,” he firmly said.

In the forum attended by global leaders, businesspersons, and international policy makers, the President also unveiled Indonesia’s economic performance, which is described as ‘a global bright spot’ by the IMF.

“Recently, the IMF described Indonesia’s economy as, I quote, ‘a global bright spot’ with strong economic growth amid a challenging external environment,” he said.

According to the President, Indonesia’s economy continues to grow consistently while the world had faced tightening financial conditions, trade tensions, and political uncertainty. In addition, Indonesia has successfully maintained macroeconomic stability, including inflation rate and budget deficit.

“Our inflation rate remained at around 2 percent. Our government deficit is now kept below 3 percent of our GDP,” he stated.

The President went on to say that international recognition of Indonesia’s economy is not based on unfounded optimism, but based on concrete evidence and policies.

“They recognize that Indonesia’s economy is resilient. Our policies have been and will always be well calibrated,” he said, adding that peace and stability in Indonesia over the years did not happen by chance, but took place because Indonesia always chooses unity and collaboration in facing challenges.

In his speech, President Prabowo also underscored the importance of credibility for a state, particularly in managing its finance and international responsibility.

“Indonesia in our history has never once defaulted on our payments of our debts. Never once,” he said, emphasizing that Indonesia has always fulfilled its financial obligations, regardless of changes in government.
