Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi handed over Decrees of Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS) to 286 high-achieving Indonesian athletes.

In his remarks, Imam congratulated the athletes for their new role as civil servants at his Ministry.

“I welcome you all to a new home, a place to continue your achievements. This is the place where all athletes in Indonesian rely on their hopes for the sake of our country,” Imam said in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/4).

The Minister went on saying that athletes are tough individuals who have sacrificed their joy and pleasure to present medals for Indonesia. From now on, he continued, the athletes’ job may be slightly different with the previous one.

“Previously you were free and not bound to bureaucracy while today you must follow regulations as civil servants,” he said

However, Imam explained that the athletes might return to national training centers with certain requirements which will later be issued by the Personnel Bureau. “As long as you follow the rules and pass the selection process, you can continue your training at national training centers,” he said.

In the meantime, Head of the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) said that there were 286 athletes who joined the ceremony, the biggest number so far. According to him, this proves that the Government seriously gives highest appreciation to the athletes to boost their spirit.

“I have never doubted your love for this nation as shown at numerous championships. But when you become a civil servant, you will also carry out duties to serve the people,” he said. (PR of Ministry of Youth and Sports / EN)
