43rd ASEAN Summit to Use Clean Energy

Prior to the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023, State-owned Electricity Company PT PLN optimizes the use of its Gas and Steam Power Plants (PLTGU) with an aim to reduce pollution in Jakarta.

“For Jakarta, the electricity will be optimized through gas power plant. Electricity used for the ASEAN Summit is powered by Muara Karang PLTGU, Muara Tawar PLTGU, and Priok PLTGU,” President Director of State-owned Electricity Company PT PLN Darmawan Prasodjo said at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (08/31).

He went on to say that the PLN will also use new and renewable energy power plants to generate clean energy and minimize pollution. In addition, the company will also reduce the capacity of Suralaya Steam-Electric Power Station (PLTU) to reduce air pollution in Jakarta.

In a bid to meet the needs of electricity during the 43rd ASEAN Summit, the PLN will ensure a reliable electrical system that provides zero downtime service, meaning that the server will be available all the time. The company will also provide electrical system that can generate 8,734 megawatts of maximum force, 5,550 megawatts of peak capacity, and 3,184 megawatts of reserve capacity.

According to Darmawan, the PLN will implement a multi-layered security system in venues of the ASEAN Summit to secure the electricity supply during the event, including the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), the ASEAN Secretariat Jakarta, Urban Forest by Plataran, Halim Perdanakusuma and Soekarno-Hatta Airports, and hotels as well as hospitals for delegates.

In addition, the PLN will provide 79 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) comprising of 14 ultra-fast charging units, 60 slow charging units, and 5 public electricity charging units (generation 2) to meet electricity needs of 800 electric vehicles used for that event.

In term of human resources, 955 personnel will be deployed to provide services and ensure adequate power supply during the event.
