900,000 TNI Soldiers and Police Officers to be Deployed to Secure 2018 Asian Games
Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) Chairman Erick Thohir stated that the Committee has coordinated with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief and Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) on the issues of security on the organization of the upcoming pan-Asian multi-sport event in August.
The Indonesian National Police Chief will deploy police personnels in four cities. In the term of security personnels, as we are all aware, Polri and TNI have nearly 900,000 personnels, the second largest in the world, Erick told the reporters after a Limited Meeting, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Monday (28/5).
With incredible power, and cooperation of all parties, including the public, the INASGOC Chairman is optimistic about security issues for the Asian Games 2018.
Previously, in his remarks at the Limited Meeting, President Joko Jokowi Wododo asked for a report on the readiness of security conditions.
We want countries participating in the Asian Games believe that it is safe to visit Indonesia and its security conditions are fully controlled, the President firmly said.
According to Thohir, to date, all preparation for the organization of Asian Games 2018 are going well. Thohir added that the President of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach will be present at the closing of Asian Games 2018, and will stay for 3 (three) days in Indonesia.
“I think it’s a positive thing. Especially if we can successfully host the Asian Games, we can take that opportunity to lobby the President of the IOC (to choose Indonesia) in hosting the 2032 Olympics,” Thohir said. (RSF/MAY/JAY/AGG/ES) (RAS/MMB/Naster)
