President Jokowi and PM Lee Discuss Tourism Cooperation

During the bilateral meeting at Wisma Perdamaian, Semarang, Central Java, on Monday (14/11) morning, President Joko Jokowi Widodo and Prime Minister (PM) of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and the delegates discussed a lot of issues.
“The meeting was transparent and productive, and we have agreed to continue the economic cooperation,” President said in a joint press conference with PM Lee after the meeting.
According to President, Singapore is one of Indonesia’s main partner in trade and investment. He mentioned that amid the global economic slowdown, Singapores investment still shows a very high increase.
“From January to September 2016, the amount of investment Singapore made in Indonesia reached 7.1 billion US dollars, increasing by 44% compared to that of the same period in the previous year,” said President. He also wished that Singapore’s investment in the country will continue to increase, including their investment in Batam and Kendal.
In a meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, President Jokowi stated that he has explained about the economic and law reforms that will continue to be carried out by Indonesia in order to make Indonesian economy more competitive.
“Regarding the investment cooperation in Kendal Industrial Park, PM Lee and I agreed that this cooperation will be a new icon of bilateral relations between the two countries,” President added.
Another cooperation discussed in the meeting was tourism cooperation. President hoped that the signing of cooperation agreement in tourism sector will strengthen their cooperation, especially in developing new tourist destinations in Indonesia.
Moreover, President mentioned they also discussed other regional and international issues, like the ones related to terrorism or the South China Sea.
“Lastly, we responded positively the tourism cooperation agreement that had been signed by the Ministers of Tourism of both countries,” President ended his statements.
