malnutrition problem should no longer exist in this country. “It’s embarrassing if this problem still exists. Thus, it must be solved immediately,” President Jokowi said when delivering his remarks at the Opening of the 2017 National Working Meeting on Health, at Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, Tuesday (28/2) morning.

If this case still exists, the President told Minister of Health that he cannot accept it because this problem can be solved.

Indonesia is now a middle-income country so malnutrition problem should no longer exist and the children should not live in poverty. No child deserves to die because of malnutrition which actually can be prevented and all of us actually know what to do.

“All people know, the doctors and midwives also know how to prevent it. This is our problem that must be solved if we want Indonesia, in 2045, to be amongst top five countries with the highest GDP. However, if it is not solved, we can forget this dream,” the President said.

Don’t be Proud If There are a Lot of Patients

President Jokowi mentioned some examples of our country’s health problems, among others, maternal mortality, malnutrition, and a number of diseases such as dengue fever and tuberculosis.

If Indonesia want to achieve its golden era by 2045, the President reminded, in particular, Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) and all heads of office to educate the people to live healthily so they can protect themselves from contagious diseases.

The President asked Puskesmas as well as hospital not to be proud if they get a lot of patients because it means health care workers as well as the Government failed to keep the people healthy. They should not be sick. They must be healthy. This is the ideal condition.

The 2017 National Working Meeting on Health that featured a theme “Central and Regional Governments Synergy in Approaching the Families to Realize Healthy Indonesia” was attended by 1,787 participants.

On that occasion, the President was accompanied by Minister of Health Nila F. Moeloek, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Chief of Indonesian National Police Gen. Tito Karnavian, and Deputy Governor of Jakarta Djarot Saiful Hidayat.
