dkppShortly after his inauguration, Harjono, one of the newly appointed members of the Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) for the period of 2012-2017, said one of the first things to do by the Council to list of works that have been done and those that need follow-up.

“We are grateful that the works were previously tackled by Pak Jimly. His works must be good ones. We take the goods things of course,” Harjono said.

Concerning administrative matters, Harjono said there are no significant barriers that the Council will face but it is possible that it will have to make improvement to strengthen its collaboration as a team.

Asked about elections in 2019, Harjono said the DKPP has to prepare its apparatus, readiness of the members, and make changes in regulations.

“There will certainly be changes in regulations, but we will announce it later. We’ll announce existing regulations and what we will add. It’s one of our first challenges. While we have time until the 2018 Regional Elections, we’ll have opportunities to review regulations that need to be perfected,” he said, adding that regarding Law on Elections, the DKPP will adjust with those changes.

Furthermore, Harjono hopes that in the future, rulings made by the DKPP will give a sense of justice for everyone.

“We hope that our decisions will not be felt unfair. We’re going to work on it,” he said.

Commenting on the possible conflicts of interest among political parties ahead of the 2019 elections, Harjono said that the DKPP will act based on reports and accordingly, the investigation done by the DKPP be based on those reports.

“That’s our credibility. Therefore, we hope that everyone can work together to uphold fairness. That’s the challenge for us to uphold code of ethics and to be really fair,” Harjono concluded. (DND/JAY/EN)  (EP/YM/Naster)
