At the opening ceremony of National Executive Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneur Association (HIPMI) in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday (7/3) President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo conveyed that it is not easy to maintain economic development in an uncertain global economic situation. “However, if we look at G20, Indonesia’s economic development currently is between 3rd and 4th position. It means, we actually remain in a very good position,” the President added.

Moreover, the President uttered that this optimism should be forwarded to entrepreneurs because the President does not want entrepreneurs to always see the negative sides. The President further said that it is time to see the positive sides, to think positively, and to have optimism.

As for Entrepreneurship Law, the President agreed to have it finalized by the House of Representatives (DPR). “I definitely agree this Law on Entrepreneurship should be passed by DPR soon, which is concerning economic acceleration for young entrepreneurs, this is very important,” the President continued, as it was mentioned by Head of HIPMI that entrepreneurs in Indonesia are previously at position 1.6 but now at a better number that is 3.01%.

On the occasion, the President also mentioned that the passing of Law on Entrepreneurship should be accelerated, which is, among others, concerning credit distribution for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“I also agree that the loans distributed today are only about 20% of the available credit. is too small. If Adinda (Chairman of HIPMI) previously said 30%, I think it should be more than 30%,” President Jokowi added. Regarding the total amount of credit to be distributed, President Jokowi admitted that he has ordered the Coordinating Minister for the Economy to gather the banks.

“I have informally told the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, next week we gather the banks so we can discuss to raise credit platform from under 20% to above 30%,” the President uttered while affirmed if it is regulated by a Law of Entrepreneurship, it will be better.

Also attending the event were the Speaker of the DPR Bambang Soesatyo, the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Oesman Sapta, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Governor of Banten Wahidin Halim, and Chairman of HIPMI Balil Lahadilia.
