Introductory Remarks of President Joko Widodo at the Limited Cabinet Meeting on the Preparation of Eid al-Fitr 1439/2018, 5 April 2018, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta

Bismillahirahmanirrahim,

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

In order to prepare for the upcoming Ramadhan month and Eid al-Fitr 1439 (Islamic calendar), although we do this routinely, I demand once again that the implementation should be more improving year after year. Thus, we need to do this afternoon’s meeting.

Firstly, once again, I want to remind you that from now we need to ensure the supply of basic commodities and price stability. We need to ensure which one should be prepared soon and which one can be prepared later before Ramadan in terms of basic commodities and also fuel supplies.

Secondly, regarding the preparation of transportation facilities and infrastructure, we need to accelerate the construction works of roads and bridges, particularly those that serve as mudik (homebound trips ahead of Eid al-Fitr) routes.

Thirdly, the security aspect. I order Chief of The Indonesian National Police (Polri), supported by Indonesian National Defence Force (TNI) and State Intelligence Agency (BIN), to anticipate any security threat and public disorder during Ramadan month. We need to ensure this so the muslims can perform worship peacefully.
