The new Commissioner of Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU), Dinnie Melanie, S.H., M.E., who was inaugurated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/5), expressed her hope that this institution could become a government institution.

“We expect KPPU could become a government institution, then the commissioner become a government official, and its secretariat officers become civil servants (ASN),” Dinni told the press after the inauguration.

Furthermore, regarding future work programs and targets, Dinni continued, priority sectors from the previous period have been launched, but the commission is going to hold a meeting beforehand to harmonize the vision and mission of fellow commissioners in order to determine priority sectors, whether they are the same as the previous one or they will prioritize more urgent sectors.

Dinni also added that the most important thing for now is KPPU institutional status. “That’s the main thing,” she said.

In the meantime, food sector, she further said, is still one of priority sectors of KPPU and she will continue to monitor the cartels.

“The monitoring was tight in the previous period, hopefully, this period will be tighter,” she concluded. (DNA/AGG/ES) (GWH/MMB/Naster)
