President Jokowi Welcomes Timor Leste President At Bogor Palace

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo on Thursday (28/6) at Bogor Presidential Palace received a state visit of President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Francisco Guterres Lú Olo and First Lady Cidália Lopes Nobre Mouzinho.
President Jokowi and his Timor Leste counterpart walked through the troops and shook hands with the children dressed in traditional costumes who greeted them at the ceremony site. After filling in the guest book, the two leaders walked to the Palace verandah and talked briefly before planting a tree of peace followed by a photo session.
“I pay a great attention to the friendship between Indonesia and Timor Leste, a future-oriented friendship for the welfare of the peoples,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at a bilateral meeting of the delegations of the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Timor Leste.
President Jokowi also expressed his hope that under the leadership of President Francisco Guterres, relations between the two countries will be even stronger. The President also stated that Indonesia is committed to continuously improving cooperation with Timor Leste in various fields and remain a trusted partner for the countrys development to realize a developed, peaceful and stable Timor Leste.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also thanked Timor Leste for the support for the nomination of Indonesia as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 2019-2020.
For the record, the visit is the first official visit of President Francisco Guterres to Indonesia after he was elected President last year. Both leaders are slated to discuss efforts to improve economic cooperation in several sectors, including trade and investment, connectivity, education and capacity building during the visit.
Also present during the event were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir.
