Cabinet Secretary: President Joko Widodo Would Meet UN Secretary

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with UN secretary Ban Ki-Moon and Head of States, in between 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. “President would hold bilateral meetings with UN secretary Ban Ki-moon, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key. Those meetings would be held tomorrow as today we have full agenda until 10 PM local time”, says Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, on Wednesday (12/11).

According to Andi, meetings would discuss bilateral cooperation. These are President Jokowi first bilateral meeting since his inauguration on October 22. As the same as President Jokowi, Prime Minister Modi is also elected as new leader in India who reaps tremendous support from the grassroots to top leaders of India.

In his visits to the three countries; China, Myanmar and Australia from October 8th – 16th to attend a summits of forum series of APEC, ASEAN and East Asia, as well as G20, President Jokowi receives many request for  bilateral meetings from the Heads of Government of neighboring countries.

Sources in Indonesia’s representative says President Jokowi receives more than ten requests for bilateral meetings. However, due to the density of agenda, President Jokowi could not fulfill all the requests at the first chance.

On Wednesday (12/11) morning, President Jokowi meets President of Myanmar as the host of the 25th ASEAN summits. This meeting is last about 45 minutes before the opening ceremony of 25th ASEAN summit. In between the summit, President is also scheduled to greet Indonesian who live in Myanmar.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi has also did bilateral meeting with the President of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister of China Li Keqiang, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, President of United States of America Barack Obama, and President of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang, President of Rusia Vladimir Putin, as well as President of South Korea Park Geun-hye in between the APEC summit. In each of those meetings, President Jokowi reaffirms the spirit of Indonesia to cooperate with neighboring in the principle of mutual relationship to the people of both countries.

On the hand, General Director of ASEAN Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja says that Indonesia carries the treatment and prevention actions of Ebola in the region, as well as doing contra terrorism and maritime shaft of Indonesia, and strengthening vision and mission of ASEAN community post 2015. The theme carries in this ASEAN summit is “Moving Forward In Unity To a Peaceful and Prosperous Community”. (Ant/ES)(Ifp)
