President Jokowi Observes Defense Exposition “Indo Defense 2014”

After opening “Kompas 100 CEO Forum 2014”, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the biannual defense and military exposition “Indo Defense 2014 Expo & Forum” staged in Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Friday (7/11).

Arriving at the location of the exposition at 11.00 AM west Indonesia time, President Jokowi was welcomed by Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu, Commander-in-Chief of Indonesian National Military (TNI) General Moeldoko, Commander-in-Chief of Indonesian National Police (Polri) General Sutarman, and Indonesian Army Chief of Staff General Gatot Nurmantyo.

President Jokowi went immediately to the stands located in Hall A, in order to observe the six anoa armored vehicles made by PT Pindad (Indonesia’s state-owned land-system and weapons maker). The armored vehicles lined up in a neat row.

Afterward, President Jokowi observed closely the Swam boat belonging to Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) and the target drone TD01 belonging to Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU), and then touched and beat the ship chantoka 1 of model 2 Kopaska. “For how many kilometers has it been operated so far?” President Jokowi asked when he observed the target drone.

At the same time, in Kemayoran’s sky, an attraction was staged by four pegassus helicopters. Several times, those helicopters staged low-flying attractions so that the visitors of Indo Defense 2014 could observe them closely.

President Jokowi and his entourage then entered the exposition hall through Gate A3 and immediately headed to the stand of KAI (a South Korean aircraft factory) and the stand of DSME (a South Korean shipyard).

After observing South Korea’s stands, President Jokowi visited the stands of Indonesia’s industries focusing on primary weaponry defense system (alutsista) like PT PAL (Indonesia’s state-owned shipbuilder) and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Indonesia’s state-owned aircraft manufacturer). Unfortunately, President Jokowi didn’t have the opportunity to come to the stand of PT Pindad (Indonesia’s state-owned land-system and weapons maker) because he had to immediately attend Friday prayer in the fourth floor of Jakarta International Expo Building.

This international-scale defense and military exposition was staged from 5 to 8 November 2014. As many as 56 countries took part in this exposition and sent their official delegations. (Humas Setkab/ES)
