Palembang is Ready to Hold Asian Games 2018, Minister Puan Says

To make sure that the 2018 Asian Games will run well, Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani visited Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang, on Saturday (11/8), one of the venues for the Asian Games. On this visit, the Minister stated that the Stadium is 99 percent ready

Minister Puan also tried the Light Rail Transit (LRT) from Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Airport to Jakabaring Sport City area. In the LRT, she interacted with the passengers. According to her, the people of Palembang are really enthusiastic to use the newly inaugurated mode of transport.

“On my way to Jakabaring, I can see that the infrastructure development goes well. The public are also enthusiastic to use the LRT. They said that the LRT is comfortable and fast,” the Minister said.

Shortly after arriving at Jakabaring LRT Station, the Minister headed to the venue for Beach Volleyball. In this venue, the Minister inspected spectator stands which construction is just finished. She also had a dialog with Indonesian beach volleyball athletes.

The Minister continued her inspection to a big lake where Paddling and Canoeing will take place. Its length is 2,300 meters and its width is 200 meters. Together with the Governor of South Sumatera Alex Noerdin, they traversed the lake using a boat.

The Minister conluded her visit by visiting the Dining Hall. In this hall, the Minister tasted food that will be served to the athletes. According to her, the food were delicious and met food hygiene standards. “After visiting several venues and meeting with a number of athletes as well as officials, I can say that the preparation goes very well,” she said.

During her visit, the Minister also explained that the Regional Government of South Sumatera will pay for the tickets of the students involving in the Asian Games.

Besides visiting the Jakabaring area, Minister Puan were scheduled as well to join a Fun Walk at the Office of the Governor of South Sumatera on Sunday morning. (Biro Hukum, Informasi dan Persidangan
