Search for Crashed Lion Air JT-610 Continues

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi confirmed that Lion Air flight JT-610 serving Jakarta- Pangkal Pinang route that had crashed into the Java Sea near the north coast of Karawang, West Java was declared operationally feasible.

“The plane was declared operationally feasible and met all the feasibility processes to fly. These processes are carried out to get certification for the plane as well as its parts. Inspections that follow the processes also had been conducted on the plane,” Budi said.

The Minister also said that certificates of Lion Air JT-610 are still valid and meet the requirements to fly. “Certificate of Airworthiness dan Certificate of Registration are granted by referring to the available data, and prevailing flight safety requirements. Those documents are still valid by the day of the incident,” the Minister firmly said.

Within the validity period of the Certificate of Registration, Lion Air, as the operator, must comply with the procedures regarding fly feasibility set by Air Transportation Directorate General, including regular maintenance and others, Budi added.

In the meantime, Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) M. Syaugi stated that search and evacuation process of the Lion Air JT610 victims will not involve other countries.

“We have no cooperation with foreigners in the context of searching and evacuating the victims. The efforts will be solely made by the Indonesian Government involving Basarnas, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), Ministry of Transportation, and the community,” Syaugi said in Jakarta, Tuesday (30/10).

According to Syaugi, 30 divers from Basarnas, and 20 Indonesian Navy’s personnels are deployed to search and evacuate the victims from underwater. The diving will be carried on until 7 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. (Humas Kemenhub/ANT/ES)
