President Jokowi: Commodities Prices Remains Stable

President Joko Jokowi Widodo on Tuesday (30/10) conducted a blusukan (impromptu visit) to Bogor Traditional Market in the neighboring city of Bogor to check the commodities prices and ensure their stability.
Given that this years inflation is below 3.5 percent, it means prices of commodities are stable. I want to check it myself, the President said.
In fact, prices of several commodities, according to the President, have slightly dropped although prices of several others commodities have increased. Demand and supply determine commodities price. This is how market works, President Jokowi said, adding that market price is in line with macroeconomic conditions, including inflation and Indonesias macroeconomic conditions are quite stable.
Price of mustard green, for example, dropped from Rp8,000 to Rp6,000 per kilogram and price of green bean dropped from Rp16,000 to Rp12,000 per kilogram. In the meantime price of avocado rises from Rp20,000 to Rp25,000 per kilogram and price of chicken meat rises from Rp30,000 to Rp35,000 per kilogram.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also explained that if there is a surge in basic commodities prices, he will immediately order Minister of Trade to maintain price stability. (BPMI Setpres/ES)
