President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (26/12) inspected the construction of Sukamahi Dam in Cisukabirus River Source, Ciawi Sub-District, Bogor Regency, West Java.

“This (Dam is built) as an effort to prevent floods in Jakarta,” the President said.

This Dam will hold water flow rate and reduce the potential for flooding during the rainy season, particularly in Jakarta. The Sukamahi Dam and another dam (Ciawi) are expected to reduce the potential of flooding in Ciliwung River Source by 30%.

For the record, construction progress of the Sukamahi Dam has reached 15%, land acquisition will be fully completed in January 2019 and the Dam is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

“I think the progress is good,” President Jokowi said.

In addition, the Central Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, in cooperation with Provincial Government of Special Capital Region (DKI) Jakarta, also takes preventive measures by working on the normalization of Ciliwung River and other rivers. The normalization of the river is urgent because of the narrowing of river’s width.

“(River engineering) in the river source is conducted by widening Ciliwung River source and (building) Ciliwung routes to the East Flood Canal (BKT), while the Governor is currently building large infiltration galleries and clearing drainage system. All those efforts, In Shaa Allah…God willing, will significantly reduce (the potential for flooding),” President Jokowi said.

Also present during the event were, among others, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Governor of Special Capital Region (DKI) Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and Deputy Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum. (BPMI/EN)
