President Jokowi Opens 2019 TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting
President Joko Jokowi Widodo opened the 2019 Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Leadership Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (29/1).
The Leadership Meeting, which was the first time held at the Palace, was attended by 368 high-ranking officers consisting of 198 TNI senior officers and 170 Police officers, among others, General (Ret.) Try Sutrisno (the 6th Vice-President of Indonesia), General (Ret.) Moeldoko, and General (Ret.) Gatot Nurmantyo as well as former Chief of Police General (Ret.) Dai Bahtiar and General (Ret.) Bambang Hendarso Danuri.
In his remarks, President Jokowi reminded that the world is constantly changing in political, economy, and social aspects; thus, the TNI and the Polri must respond and adapt quickly to the changes.
In other countries, the President continued, technology inventions usually start for military purposes, such as the 3D printing to produce military equipment.
Researchers have invented a gun made from plastic and 3D printing with similar function like those made from metal. We must begin to get familiar to new things like that, said the President while added that it will be too risky to not follow the latest technology.
According to the President, the Industrial Revolution 4.0 truly has caused various changes that the people need to continuously adapt.
Also present at the event were, among others, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu and Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto. (FID / JAY / ES)
