President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has instructed the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to curb mafia practices in football.

“(This issue) should be resolved completely to ensure fair practices in our football,” the President told the journalists, Friday (22/2).

For the record, the National Police through the task force against mafia practices in soccer has named 15 suspects related to mafia practices and match fixing in football matches. Among the suspects are acting Chairperson of Indonesia Football’s Association (PSSI) Joko Driyono, and other PSSI officials including member of PSSI Executive Committee Johar Lin Eng and member of PSSI Discipline Commission Dwi Irianto.

Regarding the idea to hold an extraordinary congress of PSSI, President Jokowi said that the congress should comply with the Articles of Association of the PSSI and FIFA provisions, adding that the election of PSSI chairperson is an internal affair of the association.
