President Jokowi Meets With Siti Aisyah at Merdeka Palace
President Joko Jokowi Widodo on Tuesday (12/3) welcomed Siti Aisyah at the Merdeka Palace.
Siti is an Indonesian migrant worker who has been accused of getting involved in the death of Kim Jong-nam, the step-brother of North Koreas leader Kim Jong-un.
On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude for her release from a heavy sentence that enabled her to return to Indonesia.
The President explained that the decision was the result of a long-term legal assistance provided by the Government, starting from hiring a lawyer when she was first arrested in Malaysia 2 years ago. It shows the Governments support for its citizens, the President added.
For the record, Siti Aisyah was arrested in Malaysia along with Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong after being accused with the murder of Kim Jong-nam in Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017. Siti was then released by the Malaysian High Court on Monday (11/3) after public prosecutor dropped the charges. (RSF/ AIT/RAH /ES)
