On the sidelines of his working visit in Papua Province, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo led an impromptu inspection of the construction of Papua Bangkit Main Stadium, in East Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Monday (1/4).

The inspection is intended to see the preparation of the upcoming National Sports Week (PON) in 2020. “God willing, (it will be finished in) May,” President Jokowi said, adding that the stadium itself has a total capacity of more than 40 thousand spectators.

The President expressed hopes that with such a good stadium, the Papua-based football club would constantly win.

On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed his agreement to Papua Governor Lukas Enembe’s proposal which suggested that the Province should focus on developing football and athletic sports. “Please focus on those two,” the President said.

Also accompanying the President on the inspection were First Lady Ibu Iriana, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Doni Monardo, and Papua Governor Lukas Enembe. (EN/OJI/ES).
