Ombudsman: Potential Maladministration Found in All Ministries, Institutions
Social class discrimination gives rise to problems in Indonesian public services, such as the fact that the public are still charged with illegal levies to speed up services, according to Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman Amzulian Rifai.
We have been facing some serious problems since potential maladministration can be found in all ministries and institutions, Amzulian said in his remarks at Thematic Forum of the Governmental Public Relations Coordination Board (Bakohumas) organized by the Indonesian Ombudsman, at Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (23/4).
According to Amzulian, the public still experience discrimination in public services, among others in health sector and civil registration service. Investors have also experienced discrimination, he added.
The Ombudsman has found that the current public services have yet to meet the expectation of President Joko Jokowi Widodo on the ideal investment services, he said.
Data shows that countries which provide best public services have been proven to be the model countries in many aspects, he added.
Countries with lowest level of corruption or the most prosperous countries set good examples for other countries, he said
One of indicators of first-class public services is good governance that must contain three aspects, transparency, participation, and accountability, he added.
The Government, he added, has also made and will continue to make various efforts to improve public services that will contribute to the peoples prosperity.
The Government has also implemented at least three strategic measures to realize it, he said, adding that those three measures are establishing Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform, establishing the Indonesian Ombudsman under Law Number 37 of 2008, and issuing Law Number 25 of 2009 on Public Services.
