President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo performed Ied prayer at Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (5/6).

The President arrived at around 6:45 Western Indonesian Time and was greeted by Minister of Religious  Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Imam of Istiqlal Mosque Nasaruddin Umar and Chairman of the Executive Board of Istiqlal Mosque (BPPMI) Asep Saepudin.

The prayer was led by Prof. Dr. H. Said Agil Husin Al-Munawar, M.A., who also delivered the sermon entitled “Eid al Fitr: to spread forgiveness and build togetherness”.

In his sermon, Said said that all Muslims should forgive each other because Allah loves forgiveness. Qur’an, he added, also teaches us to avoid conflict and to do good deeds to other people.

“Qur’an teaches humankind to love, forgive, and maintain peace,” he said. (BPMI/EN)
