Agriculture Ministry Successfully Develops B100 Biofuel

Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has successfully developed B100 biofuel, which is made of palm oil.

The statement was announced by Head of Public Relations Coordinating Board (Bakohumas) Doddy Setiadi in his remarks during a two-day thematic forum of the Bakohumas adopting the theme “B100 Biofuel as An Alternative Fuel in the Future” at Sukabumi, West Java, Thursday (4/7) and Friday (5/7).

According to Doddy, B100 biofuel is beneficial from the aspects of economy, the environment, and community empowerment. He added that it is also 40 percent cheaper than the price of diesel fuel because 1 liter of diesel can only be used by the vehicle to cover 9.6 kilometers, while 1 liter of B100 biofuel can cover a distance of 13.1 kilometers.

“Thus, B100 biofuel can save foreign exchange worth Rp26.66 trillion,” he said.

Furthermore, B100 biofuel, Doddy added, is also more environmentally friendly because it produces 48 percent less carbon monoxide than diesel fuel does and production of B100 biofuel is able to bring greater prosperity for oil palm farmers.

On the first day of the event, the attendees gained insight into research, progress, and development potential of the B100 biofuel in the future, while on the second day, the attendees were invited to inspect the Industrial Crops and Freshener Research Center of the Ministry to find out the process of making B100 biofuel.
