Indonesia Temporarily Closes Embassy in Yemen for Safety Reasons

Indonesian Embassy in Sana’a, Yemen

Following the prolonged conflicts and dangerous political and security situation in Yemen, the Indonesian Government has temporarily closed its Embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a and stopped its operation.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on 17 July 2019 signed Presidential Decree Number 18 of 2019 on the Temporary Closing of Indonesian Embassy in Sana’a, Yemen.

Following this closure, tasks and functions of the Indonesian Embassy in Sana’a will be carried out by Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, Oman.

“Consequently, budget allocated for the Indonesian Embassy in Sana’a will be stopped. The staff will also be relocated to Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, Oman,” according to the Presidential Decree

The Decree also states that the embassy will be re-opened once the situation in Yemen improves. (Pusdatin/ES)
