Netizen Reveals Modus Operandi of Personal Information Trading

(Photo by: PR of Ministry of Home Affairs)Hendra Hendrawan, a netizen who has revealed the alleged personal data trading on social media, met with Director General of Population and Civil Registration of Ministry of Home Affairs Zudan Arif Fakrulloh at the LAN Leadership Training Center, Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (1/8).

Hendra said that the personal data of electronic identity card (KTP-el), single identity number (NIK) and family card (KK) did not come from the Government.

On that occasion, Hendra explained modus operandi of personal data trading.

First, the offender creates an account in the internet and then asks the seller to send a selfie photo with the KTP-el. The offender also sends a fake selfie photo.

Second, the offender advertises job vacancy and asks the jobseekers to send their KTP-el and KK, and third by offering loan funds with KTP-el requirements. “Some offenders even come to the villages to provide staple food in exchange for photos of KTP-el and KK,” he said.

For the record, Hendra on Friday (26/7) uploaded information via his twitter account @hendralm related to buying and selling of KK and NIK data. He revealed a photo containing the personal data trading made by a number of accounts on social media.

In the meantime, Director General of Population and Civil Registration of Ministry of Home Affairs Zudan Arif Fakrulloh praised Hendra for revealing the alleged personal data trading. He also said that the Directorate General never intended to report Hendra to the police. Zudan said he only reported the alleged syndicate of personal data trading.

“Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of Ministry of Home Affairs reported the personal data trading and did not report Mas Hendra,” Zudan said, adding the report has been submitted to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian Police Headquarters and was registered on Tuesday (30/7).
