In a bid to maintain security and order in the provinces of Papua and West Papua, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered security forces to act decisively against anyone who violates the laws and damages public facilities.

“We give zero tolerance for rioters and perpetrators who violate the laws,” President Jokowi said during a Limited Meeting on Handling the Current Situation in Papua at Merdeka Palace, Friday (30/8).

He also said that he has received reports that legal actions had been carried out to both civilian and military personnel who committed violations in the region, adding that he has also ordered security forces to restore the situation in the two provinces immediately.

“The dignity of all citizens, without exception, must be protected,” said President Jokowi.

As for the damaged public facilities, the President instructed related stakeholders to immediately repair them so economic and educational activities, as well as public services can be back to normal. “I believe that people in Papua love peace and love the nation and state,” President Jokowi said.
