President Jokowi Installs Chozin Chumaidy as Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon

At the State Palace on Thursday afternoon (18/12), President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) installed and swore in Ahmad Chozin Chumaidy as Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lebanon. He will be based in Beirut.

The installation began with the recitation of Presidential Decree Number 124 of 2014 concerning the appointment of Ahmad Chozin Chumaidy as Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lebanon who is based in Beirut. The installation was followed up with his swearing-in by President Jokowi.

“In the name of Allah, I do swear that I, to be installed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, directly or indirectly, by any reason whatsoever, will not give anything to anyone. That I will not receive any gifts, directly or indirectly, from anyone. That I will fulfill faithfully all orders and instructions given by the central government and I will fulfill all other obligations imposed on Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.” That was the oath sworn by Chozin Chumaidy.

Chozin Chumaidy is a senior figure of United Development Party (PPP). He was the former Head of the party’s Central Leadership Council, the former Head of the party’s Central Leadership Council Tribunal, and the former member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from PPP Faction.

The former Dean of School of Agriculture at Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), the former Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs at IPB (2003-2007), and the Head of Intercultural Center of Bogor Branch AFS (American Field Services) since 2003, Chozin Chumaidy had previously undergone fit-and-proper test to be appointed as Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lebanon. The test was administered by the House of Representatives (DPR) in June 2014. Chozin Chumaidy underwent the fit-and-proper test together with Dr. Aulia Aman Rahman, SH, M.Si. (who was then Indonesian Ambassador to Czech Republic), entrepreneur Peter Frans Gontha (to Republic of Poland), and Lieutenant General (retired) Hotmangaradha Pandjaitan (to Republic of France), all of whom had been installed toward the end of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY’s) tenure.

The installation of the Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lebanon was attended by, among others, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nurwahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo.
