Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo has ordered all regional governments to listen to the people’s aspirations in the regions.

“The Ministry has ordered the regional legislative councils (DPRD) and regional heads to listen to the aspirations of the students in rallyes and to forward them either to the House of Representatives (DPR) or to the Central Government,” Tjahjo said in Jakarta, Thursday (26/9).

The Minister also ordered regional leaders and various regional government entities to jointly conduct surveillance and monitoring to tackle hoaxes.

“The Ministry calls on all regional heads so that all apparatus in their area are careful to digest information  from social media and memes,” Tjahjo said.

Furthermore, regional leaders are also expected to carefully observe national developments that reach their respective regions to maintain harmony and public order, he said.

On that occasion, Tjahjo also guaranteed that the current political stability in the country is well maintained and under control. He also urged that all national elements to refrain from committing any action that might violate the laws.

The stability, the Minister continued, must be maintained together through communication and by involving all community entities.

“We hope for participation in providing education and insights to the surrounding communities so that they can exert caution in responding to all information in social media that can ignite conflicts,” Tjahjo said. (Puspen Kemendagri/ES)
