President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday (10/10) received representatives of Veterans’ Legion of the Republic of Indonesia (LVRI) at Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

Chairperson of the LVRI Rais Abin said the organization had successfully carried out leadership regeneration starting today. “That’s what we report (to President Jokowi),” Rais told reporters after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the LVRI reported the activities of the organization to the President, including National Working Meeting, and transfer of leadership.

“Rais Abin as the former chairperson of the LVRI reported to the President that he is ready to hand over the leadership to Saiful Sulun and it will be confirmed at the National Working Meeting,” Agus added.

The Minister went on to say that the appointment of the LVRI’s chairperson is based on Presidential Decree; thus, the organization needs the President’s role on this.

Agus also reiterated commitment to provide assistance to several LVRI programs and to formulate an MoU between his Ministry and the LVRI. “The LVRI has also asked assistance from the Government especially in the regions where numerous LVRI members became victims of natural disasters,” Agus said.
