President Jokowi Welcomes MPR Speaker, Vice Speakers

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo requested that the inauguration ceremony of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period, which will be held on 20 October 2019, to be celebrated simply.

“I asked the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) to hold a simple yet solemn inauguration ceremony,” President Jokowi said in a press statement after meeting Speaker and Vice Speakers of the MPR at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/10).

According to the President, the MPR’s leaders visited the Palace to deliver an invitation for the ceremony.

“I also congratulate them as leaders of the MPR for 2019-2024 period,” said President Jokowi.

In addition, President Jokowi also gave green light for the public to hold a parade after the inauguration.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the MPR Bambang Soesatyo said that the inauguration ceremony will be attended by ASEAN leaders, Prime Minister of Australia, Deputy Prime Minister of China, and several leaders of friendly countries.

Thus, Bambang continued, the MPR called on the public to maintain security and peace during the event because the success of the event will give positive message to the international world. (MAY/JAY/ES)
