Cabinet Secretariat Takes Part in COP 25 Negotiation

Five representatives from Cabinet Secretariat, along with 25 members of the Delegation of the Republic of Indonesia led by Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong, attended the Conference of Parties (COP) 25 of the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Madrid, Spain, 2-13 December, 2019.

The theme of the COP 25 is “Time for Action”. Spain host the COP 25 after Chile withdrew from hosting the Conference. COP 25 aims to implement the Paris Agreement, an agreement within United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which seeks to hold the increase in the global average temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement is made during the COP 21 in Paris, 2015.

As a follow-up to COP 21, further meetings have been held, namely COP 22 in 2016 (Marrakesh, Morocco), COP 23 in 2017 (Fiji – Bonn, Germany), and COP 24 in 2018 (Katowice, Poland).

The COP 24 has produced Katowice Climate Package which emphasized the role and commitment of all countries in overcoming the challenges of climate change and the implementation of the Paris Agreement in 2020.

Indonesia continues to make efforts to fulfill its commitments to reduce emissions by 29% by its own effort (and 41% with international support) in 2030.

The five representatives from Cabinet Secretariat are:

  1. Ida Dwi Nilasari, SH, MH (Assistant Deputy for Food Security, Agriculture, Environment and Forestry) and Monalisa, SH (Legal Analyst in the Office of Assistant Deputy for Food Security, Agriculture, Environment and Forestry) at the Office of Deputy for Economic Affairs. They will oversee Agriculture issues;
  2. Teguh Supriyadi, S.H., LL.M, Assistant Deputy for Religion, Health, Youth and Sports at the Office of Deputy for Human Development and Culture. He will oversee Capacity Building;
  3. Yudi Herdanto, S.H., M.H, Head of Division of New and Renewable Energy and Electricity at the Office of Deputy for Maritime Affairs. He will oversee Mitigation issues; and
  4. Rika Yuristia Mardhiyah, S.H., M.H., Head of Subdivision of the United Nations Multilateral Relations at the Office of Deputy for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. She will oversee the issue of Transparency of Action and Support.
