Management on rice reserve must be improved, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“We must think and decide in advance about stockpiles of rice that have not been distributed. To stockpile means to increase maintenance costs and to lower quality of rice,” President Jokowi in his remarks at the Limited Cabinet Meeting on Government Rice Supply Management at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (4/12).

Therefore, the President called for immediate improvement of regulations and management of rice reserve and new breakthroughs so that the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) will not bear too many burdens.

President Jokowi also said that as the domestic rice production and the amount of rice reserves vary between regions, data on rice distribution is important for every decision-making process and corrective measures that will be taken.

The President also stated that supply and affordability of rice are also very important. “The key is efficiency and reliability in our logistics management,” he added. (FID/RAH/ES)
