Indonesia’s New Capital to Become Most Advanced Technology, Lifestyle Exhibition: President Jokowi

In his visit to the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has mentioned Indonesia’s new capital city at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2020 forum, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center (ADNEC) in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, Monday (13/1).

According to the President, Jakarta is a dynamic and historic city that symbolizes Indonesia’s economic and infrastructure growth, meaning that Jakarta has become one of the major cities that contributed significantly to the country’s economy.

In a country that has more than 17 thousand islands, the President continued, the concept of equitable development is needed so that development can be felt by all the people of Indonesia.

“The concept of new capital development will be ‘Indonesia-centric’. This is the bravest initiatives in the history of our country, building Indonesia’s new capital,” the President said.

The development of the new capital must be supported with the latest technology and the city at the same time must be a place for innovation and creativity and be environmentally friendly, and a place that provides happiness to its inhabitants.

President Jokowi further said that the new capital will be supported by the most advanced technology. “This will be the best work in energy efficiency, because the new capital will be a place for innovation and creativity and be environmentally friendly, and a place that provides happiness to its inhabitants,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also said that the Government wants to build a smart metropolis, adding that Indonesia has 1.4 million civil servants working for the Central Government and with all of their family members combined, there will be around six to seven million people moving to new capital.

“The population of new capital will be three times that of Paris, ten times that of Washington DC, and it will even equal the population of New York and London,” the President added.

The development of new capital will emphasize the importance of overcoming social problems, such as wasteful lifestyles, by building a new city that is friendly to all to adopt efficient and low-carbon lifestyles and to have orientation to public transportation and pedestrians, and close to nature.

Therefore, the President continued, the Government should pay a serious attention to the urban lifestyle in the 21st century that was low-carbon and environmentally responsible. The new capital is expected to be able to overcome social problems, such as wasteful lifestyles, by building a new city that is attractive for the people.

“The new capital development will adopt efficient and low-carbon lifestyles, have orinetation toto public transportation and pedestrians, as well as close to nature,” President Jokowi said.

President Jokowi also said the Government will learn from the pioneers of urban planners regarding new capital development, including the City of Masdar in Abu Dhabi and other countries.

“We invite the world to bring the best technology, the best innovation, and the best wisdom to Indonesia’s new capital,” the President said.
