President Jokowi Attends Tree-Planting Ceremony in Central Java
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took part in tree-planting ceremony in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, Saturday (15/2).
President Jokowi also visited the Village Seedling Farm (KBD) operated by the Mulyo Jati Group in Tanduran Hamlet, Jatisari Village, Jatisrono District, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province.
The seedling area covers 700-square meter land, with various kind of plants, including longan (1,250 stems), durian (1,500 stems), avocado (2,750 stems), stink bean (2,750 stems), soursop (5,000 stems), cashew (2,000 stems), jengkol/Archidendron pauciflorum (2,000 stems), albizia (38,250 stems), breadfruit (1,000 stems), tahitian chestnut (1,000 stems), banyan (1,000 stems), vetiver (17,000 stems), and porang (4,000 stems).
For information, Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is a grass planted on hard and rocky slopes which can penetrate the soil and at the same time hold soil particles with its root fibers. The plant can prevent soil erosion caused by wind and water.
In the meantime, plantation program in Jatisari Village, Wonogiri, is a part of measures to reduce sedimentation in Gajah Mungkur Dam. The Dam provides electricity, irrigation and raw water, freshwater fisheries and tourist area.
The Gajah Mungkur Dam includes inundation zone (8,800 hectares) and water area (135,000 hectares), with an average annual sediment of 3.2 million cubic meters per year.
After visiting Mulyo Jati Village Seedling Farm, President Jokowi and the locals planted Vetiver and fruit seeds. Also present during the visit were, among others, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of the Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar, and Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo (EN).
