President Jokowi Calls for Close Monitoring of Migrant Workers Repatriation

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered close monitoring of repatriation of Indonesian migrant workers.

“I have been informed there are approximately 34,000 Indonesian migrant workers whose contracts expire in May and June,” the President said in his remarks before the Limited Cabinet Meeting, Monday (11/5).

According to the President, those migrant workers are from East Java province (8,900 workers), Central Java province (7,400 workers), West Java province (5,800 workers), West Nusa Tenggara province (4,200 workers), North Sumatra province (2,800 workers), Lampung province (1,800 workers) and Bali province (500 workers).

“We must properly handle the arrival (of those migrant workers) at designated points of arrival. We must also facilitate them in their return to their hometowns,” the President stated, adding that the Government has designated Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Ngurah Rai Airport as the points of arrival.

“The cruise ship crew members will arrive in Benoa port in Bali and in Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta, while migrant workers from Malaysia will arrive via Batam and Tanjung Balai (in Riau Islands province),” the President said.

President Jokowi further said health protocol must be strictly implemented during the repatriation process.

“We must also provide quarantine sites and referral hospitals for those migrant workers,” the President concluded. (FID/EN)
