Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia After an Inspection on the Readiness in the Implementation of the New Normal Standard Procedures in Commerce Facilities Tuesday, 26 May 2020, at Summarecon Mall, Bekasi, West Java Province

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

This afternoon, I came to Bekasi City, West Java Province to ensure our readiness in the implementation of a new order, a new normal. We want the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to be at every crowd to further discipline the public so that they follow the health protocol that we have agreed to through the PSBB (large scale social restrictions).

We want to remain productive but safe from COVID-19. Productive but safe from COVID-19, this is what we want. But in the preparation for the new order, we also supervise the numbers, monitor facts on the ground. To see how the R0 curve is, for example in Bekasi it is already below 1, it is pretty good. And we wish, I have told the Mayor, the Governor, that in West Java, in Bekasi especially, it should continue to be maintained so that it can continue to be below, the R0 to be below 1.

I can still see activities here, but once more, we will exercise more discipline so that the health protocols are really imposed. So, TNI and Polri should monitor the implementation on the ground, ensure the implementation on the ground on matters relating to wearing masks, keeping a distance, and avoiding people in the crowd or jostling with each other. This is what we want to make sure. Therefore, today, it is started, TNI and Polri have deployed troops and officers in 4 provinces and 25 regencies and cities, in West Sumatra, in Jakarta, in West Java, and in Gorontalo. In cities, there are 25, in Surabaya, in Malang, and others.

We want to, once again, implement the new normal, implement the new order, and we want a strong awareness to emerge, a strong discipline to emerge so that we can continue to manage the R0 below 1.

I think this is all I can say in this good opportunity. And we will see the impact in one week.  Then, we will expand it to other provinces and regencies/cities if indeed there are significant improvements after the deployment of TNI and Polri in crowded places in the provinces, regencies, and cities.
