President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has instructed Cabinet Ministers to mitigate the possibility of hydro-meteorological disasters and the impact of La Nina in Indonesia.

“Do mitigate the impact of La Nina on agricultural production, as well as on fisheries and transportation sector,” the President said during a Limited Cabinet Meeting through a video conference on Hydro-meteorological Disasters Mitigation at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (13/10).

The President said that based on the report from the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency), the La Nina phenomenon is predicted to cause 20 to 40 percent increase in monthly rainfall throughout Indonesia.

The President also ordered the participants of the meeting to quickly disseminate information on changes in weather to all provinces and regions to raise public awareness on the increase in monthly rainfall. (FID/UN)
