Commemoration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad amid the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the tests for our patience as believers, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“Allah sent Prophet Muhammad as a role model with the noblest characters that we must follow,” the President said in his remarks at the Commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (via video conference), Thursday (29/10).

According to the President, caring for the people around us is one of the best morals of the Holy Prophet that is relevant in the current situation since the pandemic cannot be overcome alone but together.

“If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection,” President Jokowi said quoting Prophet Muhammad, adding that the spirit of caring for others must be our national spirit to overcome the pandemic.

The Head of State also expressed gratitude that during these eight months of pandemic, the people have sincerely helped each other and shared some of their fortune to ease the burden on their brothers and sisters experiencing financial distress.

“We should also be grateful to all people and Islamic organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, and others who have been working hand in hand to provide voluntary works, social assistance, and health facilities to handle COVID-19 and those who been working in synergy with the Government regardless of differences,” he said.

President Jokowi also called on all Muslims to take lessons from every incident that may happen amid the pandemic.
