President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed his appreciation for Organization Muhammadiyah – the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia – for its contributions to the nation.

“On behalf of the people, the nation and the country, I’d like to congratulate the 108th anniversary of the Muhammadiyah. Muhammadiyah has devoted a lot of works sincerely, which is getting stronger with time,” he said during the commemoration of the 108th anniversary of the organization on Wednesday (18/11).

Muhammadiyah’s progress in the country started from the movement of Indonesian reputable cleric Ahmad Dahlan in disseminating Islamic teachings based on the Koran and hadiths into the life of Indonesians for the the benefit of the society.

Muhammadiyah is also at the forefront of providing health and education services for the community as part of their efforts to improve the community’s status.

Millions of Indonesians have also benefited from the progress and innovation made by Muhammadiyah.

“I myself felt the quality of Muhammadiyah’s charity business services. My first grandson was born in Muhammadiyah Solo Hospital following in the footsteps of his grandmother to become part of Muhammadiyah. First Lady Iriana also went to the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta,” the President said.

The Head of State also appreciated Muhammadiyah’s real work, particularly during the pandemic, in tackling health and economic problems in the community.

Through the special team of the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center (MCCC), 82 hospitals in various provinces as well as 40 universities are all active in serving the community through the COVID-19 response program straight to the grassroots.

“On this auspicious occasion, I also would like to thank doctors, medical personnel, and health workers at Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Hospitals who have been working tirelessly day and night. May Allah always protect and bless you in carrying out this very noble task,” he said.

In the near future, President Jokowi said he would invite Muhammadiyah to assist the Government in restoring public health through COVID-19 vaccination.

The President also expressed hope that Muhammadiyah can help provide correct explanations and understanding so that the public will not get false information or harmful hoaxes.

In addition, President Jokowi explained that the Government is committed to preparing the vaccination program as well as possible and ensuring the safety, effectiveness, the halal aspect, and public access to the vaccine so that Indonesia can quickly recover and rise from the pandemic.

“God willing, all goodwill and efforts that we do will get the blessing of God,” he said. (BPMI/UN) (EST/EP)
